Living on the Gold Coast in Australia – by Jess Douglas:
3 Reasons I love living on the Gold Coast
There are many reasons I could list why I love living on the Gold Coast in Australia. However as Julie Andrews says – ‘These are a few of my favourite things’…
One of the favourite things about the Gold Coast is the laid-back vibe. Even though it is not a capital city, the Gold Coast still has the corporate, modern, city feel, but without the crazy, fast paced, hustle and bustle atmosphere of a capital city.
Openness and Diversity
What I noticed after moving interstate into Queensland is that it was easy to make friends without growing up in the area as people were warm, welcoming and friendly. For this reason I am really grateful that I have been able to not only meet new people, but make friends and learn from such a wide variety of people since the day I arrived. Ranging from learning where to go from those born and bred on the Gold Coast, to expanding my knowledge and cultural awareness from those that have relocated from interstate or overseas, acknowledging their different approach to things.
Different Accommodation and Living Options
I also love that there are many different options for living on the Australian Gold Coast and that the suburbs can cater to many different lifestyles and stages of life. Surfers Paradise, for example, can be ideal for those who may want that cosmopolitan, apartment style living, a place close to the beach or people that enjoy the busy nightlife, when on the other hand, Hope Island can perfectly suit those who want to be in a close-knit community for family living, prefer a quieter area or enjoy boating and fishing, but the laid back lifestyle might suit the opposite quite as well, and I love that.
The Gold Coast Outdoors
As someone who appreciates the outdoors, the Gold Coast also has such a diverse landscape from the beautiful coastline and beaches to the tranquil creeks and rainforests.
Living on the northern Gold Coast, I have found that it is easy to enjoy and experience all of these different sceneries within a 15-30-minute drive from home. I can drive either 30 minutes south and go for a swim in Tallebudgera Creek (between Burleigh Heads and Palm Beach) or 30 minutes west and go for a rainforest walk at Mt Tambourine. Also as a dog lover, I love that it only takes me a 15-minute drive to take my dog for a run at the Biggera Waters beach, down along Marine Parade or 30 minutes to let him go crazy and run around at the off-leash dog haven down at the Spit in Main Beach.
